Statement
Marilyn Pontius is a landscape painter that works in oils. She is based in Williamsport, Maryland, near the Potomac River and C & O Canal National Park, where she finds inspiration for many of her paintings. She is an avid hiker and outdoor enthusiast.
She began her artistic career working in the fiber arts including knitting, weaving, and quilting. She moved to oil painting while living on a farm in south central Pennsylvania, where she fell in love with the process of painting in the old master’s style. After retiring as a librarian, she has been able to devote more time to her art. Most recently, she has been exploring the tonalist style of painting.
