Boneyard At Sunrise
Digital Photography On Metal
Along the Low Country area in South Carolina the coastline is known to have substantial movement of land and water. This is due to the slope of the coastline and the effect the gravity has on the height of the tides in South Carolina. While Edisto is known to shift between five and seven feet in their tidal range, Hilton Head can shift between eight and ten feet. The diurnal tides have an extreme effect on how South Carolina's coast changes its shape and undergoes coastal erosion. The Boneyard Beach depicted in this photo experiences a retreat of 24.5' every year. Between 2015 and 2017, the average rate of erosion increased to 51' per year because of the high hurricane activity during this time period. With all that said, the beauty of this landscape is forever changing and quite a site when captured at sunrise.
