Avalanche On The Flow
Black & White Digital Photography
Avalanche Lake, Gorge and River in Glacier National Park sits below Bearhut Mountain that reaches a height of 8,694' at its highest point while Avalanche Lake is hidden at an elevation of 3,905'. Violent glacier movement of rocks and snow causes the glacial silt to deposit into the lake. This makes the lake a beautiful blue green color. The Avalanche Basin has a rich history of nutrients and sediment flowing through the deep sculpted potholes and gorge. This area has been changed overtime by the rushing water caused by melting snow from the glaciers above. By midsummer the gorge is rushing with water from the melting snow. When you hike this trail, it is quite lush and cool under the cottonwoods and cedars. Capturing the movement of the rushing water coming through this gorge has been the goal of mine during two visits to Glacier National Park.
