Plein Air, Madrona Beach, 5-6am, Looking East, 8.14.22
Watercolor, plein air, at 5am. I am drawn to scenes that are difficult to see and to paint, such as moving water, the sun's glare, elusive morning and evening atmospheres, mixing colors to honor the moment.
Every plein air painting records a passage of time, a collection of observations communicating what I see and experience, sharing the plein air experience of the light with the viewer. I believe a skillful handmade image is reassuring and empathic, a validation of human realities, cultivating belief in our capacity to behold, absorb, and understand our environment.
